Area Police
Approximately 50 automobiles have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Cars, walls and postboxes were defaced, occasionally with swastikas, they announced in a release.
Officers state they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored substance.
The liquid had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then located many other marked vehicles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials say preliminary tests suggest the liquid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no indication as to its origin; authorities are not yet cognizant of any physical harm in association with the occurrence," they commented.
City officials stated they were working "to unravel the case" and have asked to the residents for details.
A senior official stated the incident rendered him without words and needed to be resolved quickly.
"This incident affects the core of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the right-wing attack five years ago," he stated on a platform, referring to the death of nine individuals by a gunman targeting people of migrant background in 2020.
